The secret to correctly making Southern biscuits is you have to start with soft wheat. Our flour is milled within 30 miles from our plant and is delivered weekly. You will see the difference when you open our package. Next we add premium butter that has been churned and dehydrated. Biscuits in the South have to be made with buttermilk and we use the finest sweet cream buttermilk that we can find. Each bag of biscuit mix contains 1.25 pounds of real butter and 6.75 cups of sweet cream buttermilk. You will not find a Southern Biscuit Mix more Southern that ours.

Allow to sit a couple of minutes while you heat the oven to 450 degrees. Use a tablespoon to scoop the dough and drop onto a greased baking sheet. Cook for 10 to 12 minutes or until brown on top. Yield 12 to 18 biscuits.

Growing up, my most favorite activity when I visited my grandmother was to watch her make buttermilk biscuits before each meal. The nimbleness of her fingers as she gently mixed the flour, buttermilk and lard in her wooden bowl was amazing. The end result was a pile of fluffy biscuits with a crisp outer crust. Truly Heaven on earth! In my attempts to replicate the process, I ended up with biscuits that resulted in a hard, hockey pucks that could keep the NHL amply supplied for generations. That being said, my father and I set out to create a mix that anyone could bake successfully... even me. Eureka! Inspired by grandma, you can now enjoy the delicious buttermilk taste of fluffy biscuits finished with a cripsy outer crust.

Enjoy these southern drop biscuits with your favorite jam, jelly, molasses or my favorite... butter and honey. YUM!
